TOPEKA - Florence M. Schmitz, 79, Seneca, Kan., died March 8, 1993, at a hospital in Topeka. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, Kan., burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Lauer Chapel, Seneca, where the rosary will be said at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the church's restoration fund. Mrs. Schmitz was a lifelong St. Benedict area resident. she was supervisor of the school lunch program for the Baileyville-St. Benedict Unified School District in Baileyville, Kan., for 15 years; she retired in 1984. Earlier she worked in the dietary department at Crestview Manor, Seneca. She was a member of the church and it St. Ann's Altar Sodality. Her husband, Vincent Schmitz, died in 1977. Survivors include five sons, Richard Schmitz and Wayne Schmitz of Baileyville, LaVerne Schmitz, Topeka, and Valerien Schmitz and Stanley Schmitz of Seneca; three daughters, Colette Peel, Silver Lake, Kan., Bill Ott, Topeka and Clarence Wietharn, Overland Park; two brothers, Raymond Bergman and Wilfred Bergman of Seneca; four sisters, Viola Schmitz, Seneca, Mary Ann Schmitz and Alma Haug of Baileyville, and Luella Schmidt, Bulh, Idaho, 30 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
