Carl Philip "Pete" Baker passed away April 28, 2013, in a Corpus Christi hospital . He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mackie Brown Baker.

Survived by two sisters, Beckie Baker of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Eva Burke and husband Bill of Tacoma, Wash.; two children, Mac Brown Baker II and wife Kathy of San Antonio, and Gay Baker deMontel and husband, John, of Corpus Christi.

Pete was born to James Garfield Baker and Sophie Mariana Merz in Fort Worth on January 17, 1932. He attended Northside High School and Texas Christian University. He married Mackie Brown on September 1, 1950, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. After an honorable discharge, he worked many years for Big 3 Welding Supply and later became owner of Baker Welding Supply in Wichita Falls.

Pete discovered his true vocation in nursing. He was passionate and quite capable as an ER and ICU nurse. His career began after graduating from Angelo State University in San Angelo. He then spent many years in Kerrville at the VA.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church.

A memorial service is being planned at the Loveless Cemetery in Concho County in June.
