A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Ralph Wheeler Jones and Edith Owenby Honeycutt. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Lucille Arrowood Jones, who died Aug. 14, 1998, and his brother, Paul Jones.
He attended Biltmore Church of God and retired after 25 years of service from Eaton Cutler Hammer as a wireman. He was a simple man who worked hard for his family that he loved. He also enjoyed classic automobiles.
He is survived by three daughters, Kathy Phillips, Kim Carter and her husband, Shane and Jennifer Stierwalt and her husband, Chris, all of Asheville; three grandchildren, Jessica Hensley (daughter of Kim) and her husband, Matthew, Aaron Phillips and Carson Stierwalt; two sisters, Shirley Roberts and Judy Singleton, both of Asheville; and a special friend and companion, Louise Harris.
The funeral service will be held at Biltmore Church of God on Sweeten Creek Road. The Rev. Daniel Allen will officiate.
Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Oakley community.
