Mrs. Bousman Is Dead.

Former Stafford Resident Dies After Five Years of Suffering.

The news came to Stafford last Friday that Mrs. G.W. Bousman died at Fort Dodge in the early morning of that day. While the news was not unexpected, she had held onto life so long in her afflicted condition that many were hopeful that a change might come and a new lease on life be given her. Such was not to be, however, and she passed away quietly at the dawning of the day Friday, August 6th, 1909.

Mrs. Bousmans' maiden name was Mary A. Wall. She was born December 15th, 1851, near Fairmount, in Grant county, Indiana. She grew to womanhood there and on June 21, 1871, she was married to George W. Bousman. They remained there until July 1876, when they came to this county, Mr. Bousman homesteading a claim two miles southeast of Stafford before there was a town here. They made this their home continuously, with the exception of a few years, until about four years ago, when they removed to California. Mr. Bousman served the county as clerk of the court for one term and was also register of deeds and deputy county clerk in the early eighties. In all the family lived in St. John for five years - from 1879 to 1884.

On August 12, 1903, Mrs. Bousman was stricken with a disease known as articular and inflammatory rheumatism. The disease never left her from the hour she was stricken and she did not walk a step from that time until she died. In 1895 she was taken to California where the family lived for two years, but finding that the climate was not beneficial to her they returned to Kansas, going to the Soldier's Home at Fort Dodge. Last year Mr. Bousman took her to Hot Springs, Arkansas, with the hope that the waters would be beneficial, but her condition remained the same after remaining there three months. They then returned to Fort Dodge where they remained until the time of her death.

Mrs. Bousman was the mother of eight children, four sons and four daughters. One son died in Indiana when very young and was buried there. One daughter, Rhoda, aged 13 years, died in St. John, and and infant daughter also died at that place. Another daughter, also an infant, died while they lived on a farm near Stafford and is buried at Pleasant Valley cemetery. The children living are, Paul, now living at Salt Lake City; Geo. W., jr., at Fort Riley, Kansas; Edwin at Stafford, and Mrs. R.W. Simington, also a resident of this city. All the children were at the funeral except Paul, who was unable to attend.

The burial was at the Soldier's Home cemetery at Fort Dodge on Saturday, August 6th, at 6 o'clock p.m., Rev. E.A. Crouch, the chaplain of the Home, conducting the services. She was buried with military honors, the flags being placed at half mast and taps being sounded over the grave.

Mrs. Bousman was a woman of many noble traits. She was possessed of a cheerful disposition, and her invariable kindness and happy manner won for her a host of friends who will learn of her death with a feeling of sadness.
