Lee A. Gillilan was born near Hamilton, Dawless county, Mo., February 12, 1888. He died at his home in Clinton, Mo., May 1, 1918, at the age of 30 years, 2 months and 10 days after an illness of a few days with a disease the seriousness of which baffled the resident physicians and a specialist summoned from Kansas City. Loving hands of the family and friends did all in their power to stay off the grim reaper but Higher power and authority spread forth His mighty hands and beckoned him on into the world beyond. Lee moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Gillilan, to Henry county in 1902 when a boy of 14 years. He resided at his father's present home until they year 1918, when he married Etta May Gragg of Montrose, Mo. He and his wife then moved to a farm near Mayesburg, Mo. They resided there until they went to Clinton where he accepted the recorder's deputyship for Cann Jones, the present recorder. He had faithfully filled that position for the past three years. Although his health was poor, not having robust health since an operation for appendicitis when a small boy he was of such nature as to want to be doing regardless of his physical inclination. Lee was strictly honest in all his dealings. Honesty was the standard by which he measured all. He was of a kind and loving disposition, always ready to lend a helping hand to one approaching him for help. He was a loving and devoted companion to his wife and a great lover of his home. He also retained a great regard for his father and mother in their home and watched every opportunity to go back to that home for a reunion with father, mother, brothers and sisters and is from this circle he will be so sadly missed. The deceased leaves to mourn his early departure a devoted wife, father and mother and the following brothers and sisters: J.W. of near Urich, Mrs. Fred Gragg, of Urich, Virgil of Piper, Gilbert of near Mayesburg and Mrs. Chas. Calvird, of near Clinton, also an aged grandmother, Mrs. E. J. Nelson, of near Urich. His remains were brought to the home of his father Wednesday, May 1. Funeral services were held by Rev. C. E.
