He died due to wounds sustained in the Battle of Gaine’s Mill. He was promoted to Corporal 4/18/1862

Confederate Ambrotype of North Carolina Brothers. circa 1862, the quarter plate image on clear glass is housed in a half case, its subjects being two Gantt Family brothers from Belwood in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Believed to be Able and Marcus Gantt
