James Hester McCommon was born to Patrick Fitzgerald McCommon and Josephine Eleanor Jones in Rogers Springs Hardeman County, Tennessee, and moved with his family to Oklahoma about 1904. He married Josephine Eleanor Jones on 14 Oct 1906 in Fort Smith, Sebastian, Arkansas. He worked as a railroad Gandy dancer and crew chief he was injured just outside of Fort Smith Arkansas. While clearing a derailment. That took off both his legs above the knees. He died in Paris, Texas, and is buried in the grand Cemetery in Grant Oklahoma.
