Charles Irving, Postmaster of Libertytown died at the University Hospital, Baltimore, Tuesday at 1 pm after an extended illness.
He was born in Libertytown, a son of Erving and Helen Joy, wife Mary Morningstar and one son Charles E Joy of Libertytown.
He was postmaster of Liberty since 1961.
He was a member of the Liberty-Unionville Lions Club and secretary of the club and president of the club from 1953-1954. He was Zone chairman of zone 2, Region 3 in 1959 and 1960, deputy district governor from 1960-1963 and district governor of 22w in 1963 and 1964.
He was owner and operator of Joy's market in Libertytown.
he was a member of libertytown Methodist Church and a former president of the official board of the Church.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a junior warden of Plymouth Lodge #143 AF&A Masons of Union Bridge, was a member of the American Legion, Frances Scott Key Post #11 of Frederick, a member of the National Association of Postmasters and a member of Libertytown Fire Company. Funeral services were held Friday t 1:30 pm at the Libertytown Funeral Home of D. D. Hartzler and Son. The Rev. Albert Lane, his pastor officiated. Memorial Masonic services were conducted at the Funeral Home Thursday at 8 pm
