YAKIMA - Daniel Ross Hogsett, 68, passed away April 29, 2009 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He had been fighting prostate cancer for 3-1/2 years but was taken home to his Lord with a massive heart attack while out riding his bike. It was exactly how he wanted to go into eternity.
Dan was born on August 23, 1940 to Andrew K. and Virginia E. (Gause) Hogsett in Yakima, WA where he lived his whole life. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1960 and Perry Technical School in 1968 in refrigeration. He was in the Navy between 1963 - 1965, he was stationed mainly in San Diego, CA. and spent some time in Japan.
Dan married the love of his life, Charlotte Ann Van Hees on September 4, 1965 by uncle, Dewitt McAbee at the Bethel Nazarene Church.
He was an appliance repairman for 40 years, 30 of those self-employed with Dan's Appliance Repair.
When Dan wasn't working he had many favorite pursuits including; camping, jogging, bicycling, square dancing, gathering fire wood from the mountains, building rock walls at his home, growing and loving trees of every kind (dead and alive). He enjoyed vacationing with his family at the beach (Ft. Stevens,OR) more than anywhere else.
Dan never met a dog or cat that he didn't love and that didn't love him back.
He ran the Portland Marathon eight times in his 40's and 50's. He rode in the Seattle to Portland Cycling three times in the past 4 years.
He attended West Valley Nazarene Church since 1979 where he was loved by many. He was active in a singing group, New Hope Singers, during the 80's and was currently singing with Gospel Messenger Quartet. He loved to sing about the Lord and people loved to hear him.
Dan is survived by his wife, Charlotte; his son, Steve; his daughter, Leanne McDougall; five grandchildren, Sierra, Daniel, Emily, John, and Sophia, and a brother, Richard Hogsett all of Yakima.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Chuck.
