Richard served as a Second Lieutenant, 9th Combat Cargo Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New Castle County, Delaware prior to the war.

Richard died in the "Line Of Duty" of a non-battle related incident during the war.

He was originally interred in the Kalaikunda Cemetery, India and was later repatriated here on February 7, 1949.

Service # O-686805

At the families request, his state of birth was added to his headstone (New Jersey) instead of his state of residence, as was normally done, (Delaware).

His brother, PFC Robert Blackman, was also "Killed In Action" during the war.

Son of Mrs. Minerva L. Roberts who originally resided in Trenton, New Jersey and moved to New Castle, Delaware after the war.
