Mrs. Edith Cates Depsorte, 84, of Biloxi, MS, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Desporte was a native and lifelong resident of Biloxi. She was a 1943 graduate of Daisy Vestry High School and formerly employed with Gayfer's Department Store as a sales associate. She was co-owner of Desporte Bakery and a member of East Howard Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Desporte was one of fourteen children born to the late Joe and Annie Cates. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Desporte, a daughter, Bonnie Faye Desporte and 12 siblings.
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Desporte Gibson and husband, Tom; three sons, Lynn Desporte and wife, Julie, Kenny Desporte and wife, Diane, and Timmy Desporte; sister, Lois Miller; brother, William "SonnyBoy" Cates; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the East Howard Avenue Baptist Church, 241 Howard Avenue, Biloxi, MS s39530.
Visitation is Sunday, May 31, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, in Biloxi. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at East Howard Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Wilkinson Cemetery in the Larue Community.
