Sergeant First Class Bernard was a member of the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 12, 1951. Sergeant First Class Bernard was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. Alfred was the son of Raymond C. and Mary Jane Parrish Bernard, of Council Grove, located in far west Oklahoma City.
