LANCASTER, SC - Dorothy Neighbours Whitaker, age 90, of Lancaster, S.C., and formerly of Pulaski, died Wednesday evening July 26, 2005 in Lancaster. Born December 2, 1914 in Pulaski, she was the daughter of the late Mary Seagle Neighbours and Harry Neighbours. Mrs. Whitaker was a retired administrator for Appalachian Power Company, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski where she taught Sunday school for over 35 years, served on many committees, & boards, past officer in the U.M.W., was a lay member to annual conference, & was the author of the history of the church from 1880 to 1980, & headed the drive for the family life center. She will be sadly missed by all of her church members. She was a past member of the D.A.R., a past member of the Salvation Army, a past member of the Historical Society for Pulaski Co., & a past member of the Pulaski Women's Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Hurst Whitaker, and a son Gary Hurst Whitaker: She is survived by 2 sisters; Mrs. Mack "Jean" McFadden of Richmond, &
Peggy Richardson of Richmond: 2 grandchildren & their spouses; Gary H. Whitaker, Jr. & his wife Susan of Columbia, S.C., Amy W. Singleton & her husband Pete of Florence, S.C., Also survived by 2 great-grand daughters; Mary Hampton Singleton, & Elizabeth Singleton. Also survived by a daughter-in-law Roberta T. Whitaker of Lancaster. Funeral services will be held Friday July 29, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with the Rev. Bradley Threatt & the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating. Entombment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted, but for those who wish to make memorial contributions in Mrs. Whitaker's memory, they may do so to the First United Methodist Church 135 4th St., N.W.
