Bessie was first married to Thomas L. "Fay" Thompson. After his death in 1947 she married Vernon L. Mathews who died in 1948 in California. She and Thomas had one daughter, Thelma Strawn.

Mrs. Bessie Thompson Mathews

Mrs. Bessie Thompson Mathews, 20 East 10th, died Saturday morning at a rest home at 2808 North Monroe following an illness of three years.

She was born Sept. 19, 1879, in Henry County, Ind. She had lived in Huthinson since 1902 and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Eastern Star and White Shrine.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Thelma L. Strawn, 814 North Washington; one sister, Mrs. Harry Skinner, 315 West 2nd; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Elliott and Gar Chapel with Rev. T.J. Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Bessie Thompson, 814 North Washington, and V.L. Mathews of San Jacinto, Calif., formerly of Sterling, were married in Riverside, Calif., June 20. They are at home in San Jacinto. Mr. Mathews is a retired farmer.
