She was born in Salt Lake City on August 12, 1925, the sixth child of Wilford Wells and Johanna Elizabeth (Dworack) Boren.
Rita graduated from South High School in 1942 and then worked at Hill Air Force Base.
While training as a radar tech in Philadelphia, she met Jack B. Stowers. They were married in Tampa, Florida on December 4, 1943 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 28, 1955.
She moved her family many times during Jack's career in the Air Force. Later they served four proselyting missions together for the LDS church. Rita was well known for her quilting. She also devoted herself to genealogy and wrote life histories of her ancestors. Her hobbies included travel and rock hounding.
She is survived by her husband who cared for her through her years of declining health. She is also survived by one sister, Kate Mauerman, her sons, Scott and Jonathan and her daughters, Kathleen, Suzanne Ruskievicz and Judy Siddoway and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She will be welcomed on the other side by many beloved members of her family who went before.
Friends and family are invited to a service at Jack and Rita's home at 1590 Lone Peak Drive on Thursday, May, 28th from 12 Noon to 1 p.m. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday at the Holladay Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
