Robert Lindsey "Bob" Bamburg, son of Charles Hampton Bamburg and Lucinda Griffin

Husband of (1) Sarah Elizabeth "Sallie" Pickett (2) Elizabeth Caroline "Callie" Pickett (3) Malissa Alabama "Lizzie" Pickett (4) Lula Andrew Harville

Lived on the land commonly known as "Old Scott Place"

Christmas Party 1895
A big group of family members were gathered at the home of Bob and Callie for holiday celebrating, perhaps a dance, when John Blanchard, who had been drinking, became unruly and created a disturbance. His half-brother, named Graves, was trying to persuade him to leave and had a hold on him whne the gun was fired. The blast that killed Blanchard shot Graves' hand off. It is at this point that the stories differ. Some have said Bob Bamburg had no choice but to shoot in order to protect the women and children who were present. Others say Blanchard actually was leaving the scene with Graves when the shot was fired.

John Blanchard was the husband of Bob Bamburg's half-sister, Josephine, and the father of her two sons, ages five years and ten months. Whether the shooting was truly justified or not, I cannot say; but, there was no prosecution in the incident that I have ever heard about.

Tradition holds that soon afterward and probably because of the killing, Bob moved with his family over to the sand-hills in Natchitoches Parish, possibly near the present Government Road between Ashland and Readhimer. Supposedly, a married son, Jarrett, and his family also went. It is said they stayed for about two years.

- Robbie Bamburg, great granddaughter of Bob Bamburg
