C. Leyendecker Funeral Held At Frelsburg
Funeral services for 91 year-old Charles Leyendecker Sr., who died at his home with his son at Fredlsburg Sunday, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the family home with Rev. W.A. Flachmeier in charge. Mr. Leyendecker, a retired cattleman and farmer, had lived all his life in Colorado county. He was born Dec. 24, 1855, five years before the Civil War. He was a son of Johann Leyendecker who came to America in 1843. His mother was he former Josephine Zimmerscheidt. Married in February, 1883, he was the father of nine children. Mr. Leyendecker was a member of the Sons of Herman for 55 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Hahn Leyendecker; seven children, Mrs. A.W. Rau, Arthur Leyendecker, Albert W. Leyendecker of Rockdale, Mrs. Ewald Stein, Mrs. Percy Kollman, Mrs. Ernest Gay and Charles Leyendecker Jr; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers included his grandchildren, Raymond, David, A.W. Rau, Manly and Crockett Leyendecker, LeRoy Stein, Charles F. Kollman and Charles Leyendecker III.

Burial was in the family cemetery near Frelsburg with the Boehm Funeral home of New Ulm in charge. Out-of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Edna Muske, Mrs. Selma Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Longshore, Brookshire; Robert Leyendecker, Lockhart; Miss Victoria Frels, Huntsville; Reuben Frels, Victoria; Mr. and Mrs. Leo A. Miller, Gregory; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stuckly, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Wehner, Barbara and Herman Jr., Mr. and Mrs. S.O. Smalley, L.O. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Westphal, Mr. and Mrs. James Sykora, Mrs. Hattie Reichl, Miss Vallie Dobrfts, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rau and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Pophanken, all of Houston. Also Mr. and Mrs. Gus Backhus and daughter Peggy and Mrs. Albert Leyendecker, Rockdale; Mrs. Henry Hastedt and Rev. and Mrs. Flachmeier, Austin, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schiller, College Station.
