There is a conflict over the parents of Samuel Cole, Sr. Some think he is the son of James & Anne Cole and others think he is the son of John & Anne (Yorke) Cole. "Families of Early Hartford, Conn" by Lucius Barnes Barbour has his parents to be John & Anne (Yorke) Cole, and I tend to agree with him since James Cole would have been 56 years of age at Samuel's birth which would have occurred 20 years after their marriage. So, I think his parents are John & Anne (Yorke) Cole.

Samuel married MARY (unknown maiden name) about 1675 in Hartford. He was a freeman in Hartford and owned considerable property at the time of his death which included land in the Ox pasture (bequeathed to son, Ichabod), land at Poke Hill (bequeathed to sons, John & Jonathan), the land where his homestead existed (bequeathed to SAMUEL COLE Jr., his oldest son). His will dated March 15, 1693/4 directed that his wife, Mary would have full use of his estate until his children come of age as well as 1/3 of the moveable estate, two rooms in the dwelling house, and 1/3 of all of his lands during her natural life. She was appointed sole Executrix of his estate on April 7, 1703, and his brother, Nathaniel Cole, and Samuel Kellogg were to be overseers.
