MRS. JANE BOOTHE
Mrs. Jane Boothe of Chariton, died at the Yocom hospital on Sunday, Feb. 24, 1935, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 4 days, following a stroke of paralysis at her home on Saturday morning.
Funeral services, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Frederick W. Simpson, were held at the Methodist church in this city on Tuesday forenoon at eleven o'clock, and burial took place in the Coal Glen cemetery.
Nancy Jane Bennett, daughter of William and Elizabeth Bennett, was born in Tennessee on December 20, 1849. She left there during the Civil War, living for a brief period in Indiana and Illinois. The past sixty years of her life were spent in Lucas county.
In 1866, when she was seventeen years old, she was married in Iowa to David Croy, who died a year and a half later. On Jan. 14, 1872, she was married to James H. Boothe, who preceded her in death on June 3, 1915. An adopted daughter, Mrs. Ruth Brandon, of near Lovilia, whom they took into their home when she was but three years old, survives.
Mrs. Boothe became a Christian in early girlhood, and for fifty-two years had been a member of the Methodist church, and for over thirty years was a member of the Chariton Methodist church. She led a devout Christian life and was a faithful attendant at church services until her health failed. A noble woman has gone to her reward.
Besides the adopted daughter, Mrs. Brandon, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Essex, of Clyde Park, Montana, and 21 nephews and nieces.
