M/Sgt. King was Turret Gunner and Radio Man on a B-37 Bomber during World War II. He was killed on a bombing mission to Weiner-Neustadnt on May 10, 1944. His remains were originally buried in an isolated grave at Buchschachen, Austria, but later disinterred by units of American Graves Registration Service and reburied in the United States Military Cemetery in Neuville-en-Condrox, Belgium.
Furman was returned home in the summer of 1949 and buried by his grandmother, Sara Dodd King, who helped raise him.
Furman was the son of Tecora and W. R. King of Westminster, South Carolina and a brother of J. Milton King of Greenville, SC and J.B.King of Norcross, Georgia.
