"James death was after 10 Dec 1790 (which was the date he wrote his will). It was probated in Feb 1795/96 some 6+ years after it's writing, which suggests he lived long past the writing and probably died within 4-6 months before probate."

James came to America from Ulster (Northern Ireland) with at least one brother, William, and one sister, Elizabeth, probably in the 1730s, when they were young adults. They lived in Talbot County, Maryland and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania about 25 years, before moving to North Carolina with their families about 1761.

James served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War. Although in his 60s, James fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in 1781.
