Sylvester was a twin of stillborn brother Chester, sons of James Wetmore Baldwin (1820-1895+) and Lavinia "Leah" Nancy Calhoun (1824-bef 1900) Kansas.

Sylvester married EMMA ELIZABETH FIELDER, born December 21, 1856 in Hagerstown, Wayne County, Indiana and died January 25, 1934 in Johnson County, Kansas (Memorial #.82483403).

As a young man, SYLVESTER was a huckster or peddler and took his wagon around selling pots and pans and other goods, known today as a traveling salesman. Later, the family traveled from Indiana in 1884 to the City of Kirksville in Adair County, Missouri by wagon where his son Harry attended the Kirksville High School. Sylvester died September 18, 1904 of a stroke, age 56 years old in Wyandott County, Kansas and was buried in Union Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri on September 21st. Harry Baldwin was age 22 and said his father had a sunstroke and was given an over-dose of morphine and died.

The children of Sylvester and Emma were:
1. Lou Bertha "Bert" Baldwin (1873-1960); married Lewis Milton "Milt" Crosby (1872-1952).

2. William Whitmore Baldwin "Will" (1876-1959). Find A Grave Memorial# 94865034

3. Gladia May Baldwin (1880-1961); married John Oren Cole.

4. Harry Prosser Baldwin Sr. (1882-1970).

5. Lena Binford Baldwin (1884-1974). Married Charles Richard Halderman. Lena was named after her Aunt Lena B. Fielder.

In 1905, the year after Sylvester died, the widow Emma Fielder Baldwin was still living in Rosedale, Wyandotte Co, Kansas. On June 2, 1906, Emma, age 49, married 2/ James H. Patterson, age 55 in Independence, Jackson Co, Missouri. He died January 25, 1924, age 80 years at the home of his step-son, William Whitmore Baldwin. Will Baldwin's son, Billie Baldwin Jr., lived with Grandma Patterson after his mother Tillie died.
