LeRoy Snodgrass passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Central Washington Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 79 years old. LeRoy was born on June 29, 1924 in Waterville, Washington to Benjamin and Mae Snodgrass. The family moved to Wenatchee in 1926 and he has lived here ever since. LeRoy started carrying papers for The Wenatchee World when he was 9 years old and, except for his 4 year stint as a signal man in the Navy during World War II, he was employed by The World until the day he died. LeRoy made the smartest decision in his lifetime when he wed Violet Harden on April 16, 1944.
LeRoy's main love in life, after Violet, was sports. He delighted in coaching Little League, Babe Ruth, and Legion Baseball. As his two sons, Richard and Larry, went through school, you could always find LeRoy either helping on the field or sitting in the stands during which ever sport the boys were playing that season. In his later years, while still working at the Wenatchee World he and Violet loved traveling. He was always either just getting back or about to go on the next trip. LeRoy loved life and laughter and could always be counted on to have the latest joke, risqué or otherwise. His smile and humor will be greatly missed.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Mae Snodgrass, his son, Larry Snodgrass, and his grandson, Brad Snodgrass. He is survived by his wife, Violet Snodgrass, his son, Richard T. Snodgrass, his grandchildren, Ben Herr and Shari L. Snodgrass, his cousins, Don, Susie, and Jim Davis, Willard, Sharon, Ron, and Bonnie Rinker, and Thelma Thurston, and his second family at The Wenatchee World.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at Wenatchee City Cemetery with Chaplain Scott Langager officiating.
Refreshments will follow the graveside service at the family home.
Viewing will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
