Services for Leona Melton, 97, Canton, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 30, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel, Canton, with Rev. Steve Glosup and Rev. Ira Waddell officiating.
Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park.
Mrs. Melton died Aug. 27, 2000, in Canton.
She was born Oct. 3, 1902, in Canton to the late Samuel Vernon and Daisy Iodna Holloway Tucker. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was previously a member of Jackson Baptist Church for 70 years. She was a past member of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9171. She lived in Oklahoma and Arkansas prior to moving to Texas at the age of six. where she attended schools at Willow Springs and Tundra. She retired from Canton Independent School District in 1965 as a dietitian. She made her home in the Jackson Community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Melton, in 1969; brothers, Norman, Elmo, Carl and Earl Tucker; sister, Ruby Tucker; son, Virgil Melton; and grandson, Rickey Parker.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Daisy and Clifton Parker, Canton, and Betty Jacobs, Bossier City, La.; son and daughters-in-law, Joe Vern and Annie Lee Melton, and Dorothy Melton, all of Canton; sisters, Floy Blake and Velma Murphrey, both of Canton; brother Kenneth Tucker, Canton; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers included Virgil Melton, Jr., Brent Melton, Rand Melton, Tony Melton, Paul Melton, Kelly Jo Melton, Steve Jacobs and Jerry Jacobs.
Great-grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
