He married Maurina Linenberger and they had 8 children together. Around 1937, Leo and Maurina packed up their 8 children and a few belongings that would fit on the back of the truck and moved out to Oregon to find a better life. Leo worked as a watchmaker at a store in Salem. In 1965 his wife passed away. A few years later he married Magdalena and they lived happily together in the Salem area until his death.
