Enlisted on August 1, 1861 at Halifax County, North Carolina as a Private in the 24th North Carolina Infantry, Company H at the age of 36. Discharged due to disability on May 1862. Enlisted on November 17, 1863 in the 35th North Carolina Infantry, Company E. POW on June 17, 1864 near Petersburg, Virginia and sent to Point Lookout, Maryland. Transferred on July 27, 1864 to Elmira, New York. Died of disease as a POW.
