HENRY H. BARGER

With heartfelt sorrow the Herald-Patriot notes the death of one of Lucas county's life long and highly respected citizens, Henry H. Barger, which occurred at his home in Union township on Saturday, July 4th, 1914, at the age of fifty-three years, seven months and twelve days, after an extended illness with hardening of the arteries.

Funeral services were held at the Goshen church on Monday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. J. Sigler, assisted by Rev. M. S. Clark, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Goshen cemetery. The unusually large attendance at the last sad rites testified to the high esteem in which he and his family have always been held by those who have known them.

Henry H. Barger was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on November 22nd, 1860, and he never knew any other home than the one where he was raised in Union township. He was the eighth child of James and Annie Eliza Barger.

He was united in marriage to Mary Skidmore on the 14th of October, 1885. To them were born two children, both of whom are living, Mrs. Alma Terhune and Mrs. Eva Melvin. His wife died on August 8th, 1896.

He was again married on May 11th, 1898, to Miss Alice Cottrell, who survives him. To this union were born four children, Lola, Zella, Hal and Gerald. He is also survived by two sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Barger was an honest, upright man, square in all his dealings, and his sterling qualities and pleasant disposition won for him friends of all with whom he came in contact. His demise will be greatly deplored, and the sorrowing relatives will have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
