ATHENS -- Mavis Idela Knapp, 76, of Plum Hollow (RR 4, Athens), died suddenly March 9 at Brockville General Hospital.
She was born October 23, 1930 in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, to Stanley Crummy and the former Lovina Douglas. When she was seven, she moved with her family to the Athens area, where she attended Lake Eloida Public School and Athens District High School.
On December 4, 1948 she married Clair Knapp in Brockville and they lived in that city as newlyweds. She worked at the Stetson hat factory, at Automatic Electric (makers of telephone switching equipment) and for the Red Cross. She retired 11 years ago. She helped her husband with farming at Plum Hollow, where they lived from 1963. Her husband died November 25, 1991. Mrs. Knapp volunteered at St. Lawrence Lodge and Sheldon's Community Centre and was an active member of Christ Church, Athens. She was a good neighbour who liked to help family and friends in many ways. Her interests included sewing, knitting, gardening, travelling and reading.
