Son of Charles Hampton Bamburg and Elizabeth Keith; husband of Martha Almedia Sessions

Received his nickname of "Possum John Bamburg" after he was sleeping on his front porch and awoke to find o'possums in his field eating his corn. He jumped up and killed every single one of them and the name "Possum John" began.

John's granddaughter remembers her Grandpa Bamburg as a good old man who loved playing magic tricks and making silver dollars appear from behind her ear, and as a man who loved taking naps on his front porch, but getting worked up when his grandson Virgil would poke him with a broom handle.
