Passing of Burt Knapp at Plum Hollow
Funeral Services were held Tuesday for Henry Burton Knapp, Plum Hollow, conducted by Captain Craig of the Salvation Army, Brockville, at his late home, where he was born and spent most of his life. The pall-bearers were James Maling, Charles Wiltse, Ray Niblock, Asa Pattamore, Frank Tackaberry and J.W. Newsome. Internment was made in the family plot at Plum Hollow Cemetery.
In his 75th year, he spent his entire life on the farm where he died, with the exception of one year spent at Crosby Station, where he was an agent. His parents were Orre Knapp and Adeliza Kilborn. In 1893 he married Maria Love, who predeceased him three years ago.
About ten years ago he gave up active farming because of his health. He had been in failing health for a year, and critically ill since he suffered a heart attack last spring. He died Sunday morning at the Brockville General Hospital about 9 a.m.
Recently he received his pin and diploma for ten years service with the Super test Oil Company, whose products he handled. He was also a salesman for Dr. Bell and other products. He was a member of the United Church.
In 1907 he purchased the first truck to be seen about this vicinity, and used it for many years for market gardening. This truck, which was little more than a democrat with a 2-cylinder engine. The fact that this truck is still running shows the care with which he used his machinery. He sold the truck three years ago to Don Fulford of Athens, and it has caused much interest to local people.
He is survived by one son, Leonard Knapp on the homestead, and one sister, Mrs Fred Rabb of Jasper, the only survivor of a family of six. He also leaves 7 grandchildren.
