Excerpt from Southeast Missourian, May 23, 1949
...Fred Wise, boiler operator at the cement plant, was killed in the basement of his home when the floor of the two-story, frame dwelling at 800 Perry avenue, caved in. Mrs. Wise and son, Don, 12, were in the western corner of the basement, and Mr. Wise had gone to the east section of the basement to close the door. The entire eastern half of the basement was filled with flooring, beams and rubble. Mrs. Wise and son were uninjured.
