Death of Clara Jane Reed, Otoe County, Nebraska
Late Saturday evening, on December 5, 1942, at her home here, death called from our midst, Mrs. Jane Reed, aged 87, fondly known to all those who loved her, as Grandmother Reed. Following long months of patient suffering, the end came about 10 o'clock Saturday evening. A brother, Chas. S. Camp of Lewis, Iowa, the only surviving member of her immediate family, arrived here in time to spend the last few earthly hours with her.
Clara Jane Camp was born May 16, 1855, at Oxford, Johnson county, Iowa, the daughter of Anna Mason and Walter Camp. She came to Lincoln to live on July 2 1870, and October 5, 1897, she was married to J.A. Graves, who preceded her in death March 1, 1908. The couple resided at Palmyra, and the deceased had continued to make this her home since that time. On October 14, 1912, she was married to Walter W. Reed who passed away on August 1, 1926. Surviving are her brother, Charles Camp; also four step-children: R.L. Reed, Palmyra, Mrs. Maude Hull, Ruskin, Mrs. May Young, Freeport, Ills., and Carroll Graves, Morrill, Nebr., two stepsons, Johnson and Orville Graves, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reed was a member of the First Baptist church in Lincoln, then transferred her membership to the local Baptist church, where she had been a faithful member for many years. She was also a member of the Palmyra Woman's Club, taking an active part in the organization as long as her health permitted. Her parents were both in the teaching profession, and her father was a Lieutenant in the Civil War.
