Sue Bryce Hartsell, 78, Altus, passed away Thursday night, May 21, 2009, surrounded by family at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist with the Rev. Margie Van Oostrum officiating. Burial will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Billie "Sue" Bryce was born July 30, 1930, to William Preston and Willie Ethel (Watts) Bryce in their home on the farm southwest of Altus. The youngest of eight children, she grew up on the farm and attended Altus public schools. In high school, Sue participated in chorus and Kay Club and actively supported sports in which all her brothers participated. She took piano and voice lessons in which she excelled. She sang in the church choir and at weddings. She was invited to participate in a quartet, but could not because the group traveled to singing engagements, and her father said it was inappropriate for her to travel with three unrelated men.

Sue married Henry Hartsell at the First United Methodist Church in Altus on Jan. 31, 1958. She attended Altus Junior College and Western Oklahoma State College where she was president of Faculty Dames and hosted the Christmas party many years. She was also honored at the First United Methodist Church as the Woman of the Year. She helped raise funds for many organizations. She was also a member of Alpha Eta Rho at WOSC. Sue was active in the church everywhere she lived, including Burns Flat, Montgomery, Ala., Fairborn, Ohio, Leavenworth, Kan., Vienna, Va., and Altus. She usually joined the first Sunday in a new place and loved teaching Sunday School and working with youth groups. She was a Paul Harris Sustaining Member of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She was very supportive of her children throughout their schools years by attending all games, plays, and concerts.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thurman, Owen, James and C F; sister, Robinette; sister-in-law and close friend Christine Hartsell Huneycutt.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; one daughter, Donna Fostvedt and husband Bob; four sons, Robert Hartsell, Hank Hartsell and wife Cheryl, Bill Hartsell and wife Siobhan, James Hartsell and wife Mary; two brothers, Eugene Bryce, Warren "Corky" Bryce; nine grandchildren, Todd Fostvedt, Tracy Fostvedt, Betsy Hartsell, Caitlin Hartsell, Meghan Hartsell, Jenny Hartsell, Alyssa Hartsell, Zach Miller, Brendan Hartsell; six great-grandchildren, Justus Fostvedt, Faith Fostvedt, Hope Fostvedt, Honor Fostvedt, Tyler Fostvedt, and Tessa Fostvedt.
