Vice president of Ridgely National bank until 1901. Comptroller of currency under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt from 1901-1908. President of Bank of Commerce in Kansas City, Mo. Former postmaster of Springfield.

Married Ella M. Cullom, daughter of Sen. Shelby M. Cullom on Oct. 24, 1882. His wife died in June 1902. Married a second time in Washington, D. C., on 12-30-1905. Survived by his mother Jane Ridgely, wife Mrs. Kate Deering Ridgely, daughters (from first marriage) Mrs. Harry E. Parker and Mrs. Phelps Brown; sister Mrs. William Vincent and brothers Franklin and Edward Ridgely.
