CONN Jack T., 81, OKC and State business and civic leader, died Wednesday, May 15, 1991 in OKC. He was born November 19, 1909 in Ada, Okla. where he was a graduate of high school, and a 1933 graduate of East Central State University. In 1936, he married Gillett Massey, who preceded him in death, and at that time he entered the Univ. of Okla. School of Law and graduated in 1940. He was a Sigma Nu Fraternity member. From 1940 to 1951 he practiced law in Ada and was a partner in the firm of Kerr, Mahue & Conn. In 1951, upon the death of his father-in-law, he became President and CEO of Okla. State Bank of Ada. In 1964, he became Chairman and CEO of Fidelity Bank in OKC and held that position until December 1983 when he retired. After retirement he was counsel with the Linn-Helms firm in OKC. He was currently serving as a director of Citizens State Bank of Ada and was a former director of Community Bank in Warr Acres. He served as President of the Oklahoma Bankers Assn. in 1958 and President of the American Bankers Assn. in 1966.
He was the principal drafter of the current Oklahoma Banking Code.
Elected to Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 1969. Also served as President of the Oklahoma Historical Society and Oklahoma Heritage Assn. He was considered to be "father" of the Conncourse connecting downtown OKC buildings. He was a member of the Bishop's Council of OKC University and served as Chairman of both the Diamond Jubilee - 75th Anniversary of Oklahoma in 1982 and the Bicentennial Commission in 1976. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Royal Order of Jesters and India Shrine Temple. He was a driving force in civic affairs and highly respected for his ability. He was an avid watch collector and had one of the finest collections in the nation. He has bequeathed equal shares of the collection to OKC University and East Central University in Ada. In 1983, he married Helen Statler. Survived by wife, Helen; Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, Westminster Presbyterian Church in OKC, directed by HAHN-COOK/STREET & DRAPER. Interment 2:30 p.m. Friday, Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, Ok. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Ada, or to charity of donor's choice.
