Carl was the son of Ottomar Louis Bock and Pauline Moeller. He was the husband of Elsie A. Woods and father of Helen, Leona, and Norma. Carl came to the U.S. from Germany in 1885 with his parent and siblings and they settled in Smith Co. Over the years he worked as a farmer, a laborer and an alfalfa miller. He died at about 51 years of age.
