Robert Harold McKinnon, 82, Hernando, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Hospice of Citrus County Hospice House in Lecanto. Bob was born April 4, 1927, in Holtville, CA, to the late Harold and Gladys (Blanchar) McKinnon and came to this area 11 years ago from Madison, WI. He served our country in the United States Army. Bob was employed as Senior Vice President in charge of marketing for two different insurance companies and upon retiring, enjoyed recruiting for those companies. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Inverness and served as President of the Rotary Club of Middleton, WI, where he was the recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. A member of the Board of Directors of Hospice of Citrus County, Bob was a long time advocate of Hospice principles and was very proud of meeting the community goal of building the Hospice House in Lecanto. He was very much a "people person" and enjoyed social gatherings and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church.
His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marian McKinnon, Hernando; two sons, Steven McKinnon, Janesville, WI and David M. McKinnon, Kirkland, WA; daughter, Laurie Wellington-Heim and husband John of Lecanto; his brother William McKinnon, Bakersfield, CA, and sister Carol Joyce Pattison and husband Jerry of Powell River, Vancouver, British Columbia; four grandchildren Rob, Saben, C.J. and Meghann; and one great-grandson, Ethan.
A celebration of life memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is in charge of private cremation arrangements. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. The family requests donations to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 in Bob's memory in lieu of flowers.
