Mrs. Vivian R. Barkdoll, 87, a resident of Hearthstone Retirement Community and formerly of 102 Strickler Ave., both of Waynesboro, died Friday morning, October 23, 2015, at the retirement community.

Born July 26, 1928 in Smithsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Hilda (Hahn) Beam and her step-father, by whom she was raised, the late Clarence Beam.

She and her husband, the late Carmer H. Barkdoll, were married on September 29, 1946. They moved to Strickler Ave. in October 1976. Mr. Barkdoll died on March 7, 1979.

In her early years, Mrs. Barkdoll worked at J.J. Newberry's and Funk's Drug Store, both of Waynesboro. She later worked at Happel's Flowers in Waynesboro, for over 16 years, retiring in 1978.

She was an active member of the Wayne Heights Brethren Church, Waynesboro, where she also taught Sunday School.

Mrs. Barkdoll enjoyed cleaning, reading - especially her Bible, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, Terry L. Barkdoll and his wife, Linda of Waynesboro and Melissa I. Downin and her husband, Robert of Greencastle; four grandchildren, Mike Barkdoll, Clint Barkdoll, Jennifer Cockran, and Jeremy Downin; three great-grandsons, Will Barkdoll, Luke Barkdoll, and Jake Downin.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 26, 2015 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with Rev. Mike Eddy officiating. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, PA.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Monday afternoon, in the funeral home.
