Born April 5, 1994, in Forsyth County, she was the daughter of Charlie and Alicia Smith Chandler of Granite Falls.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Karen Jeanette Day Smith, and her paternal grandfather, Claude Thomas Chandler.

Kara was a freshman at South Caldwell High School, active in the Worship Point Baptist Church youth group and a member of Sims Country Cloggers.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, is her twin sister, Cressinda Lee Chandler of the home; her maternal grandfather, Jerry Lee Smith of Hudson; her paternal grandmother, Jean Forte Chandler of Cajah's Mountain; her maternal great-grandmother, Madeline Smith of Lenoir; a special friend, Harley Starnes of Lenoir; and her adopted aunt, Barbara Kirby and husband, Fred, of Vale.
A service to celebrate Kara's life will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at West Lenoir Baptist Church, with the Revs. Rick Safriet, James Lockee and Randy Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at West Lenoir Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, in Worship Point Baptist Church Cemetery
