POPIVCHAK JOHN

Peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2008; beloved husband of Helen Zagorsky Popivchak; father of David (Rochelle), Carol (John) Besspiata, Robert (Carolyn), Mark and Dennis (Coleen) Popivchak; loving grandfather of Justin, Kristen & Caitlin Besspiata, John David Popivchak, Rachael, Courtney, Sarah, & Jessica Popivchak; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brothers Dr. Charles, Michael, Peter, Steven, & George and sisters Anna Trinkala, Jean Missonak, & Mary Steranko. John was a graduate of Duquesne University and a WWII veteran who served in Europe with the 102nd Infantry Division (Ozarks). John was employed by the U.S. Dept. of Labor where he retired as Pittsburgh Data Center Chief in 1987. During his retirement, John was an active member in numerous community organizations, including the St. Clair Hospital Volunteers & Meals on Wheels, as well as church organizations such as the Knights of Columbus (for which he served as Grand Knight of council 11622), Legion of Mary, Care and Concern, and many others. He truly embraced his family and his church, and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Friends will be received at the BAGNATO FUNERAL HOME, 50 Jefferson St., Carnegie, Sun 6-8 PM; Mon. 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral Liturgy in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church Carnegie, Tues. 10 AM. Parastas Mon. 7 PM.
