John Arnold Hayes, 76, of Lilly Dell, Dublin, died Sunday morning at his home. He was born October. 22, 1902 in Smyth County, the son of the late Issac Hayes & Geroma Pennington Hayes. A retired employee of RAAP, he service in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Donald (Fleta) Hagee of Dublin and Mrs. (Betty) Powers of Virginia Beach: three sons John E. of Dublin, Jimmy R Hayes, Orange and Benny I Hayes, Tampa FL; 17 grandchildren, two great-grand children; also his step-mother, Cordella Lester of Konnarock; two brothers, Charles L Hayes, Dublin and David I Hayes, Ormand Beach FL; and one sister, Pearl Edmonds, Mars Hill, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel in Dublin, with the Rev. Jim Lesli officiating. Internment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens of Dublin. Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight at Bower Funeral Home in Dublin. Bower Funeral Service in Dublin is handling the arrangements.
