Martin E. Dunlap, the son of Bert and Lucretta Oberlender dunlap, was born on a farm south of Abilene in Dickinson County, Kan. on March 16, 1894 and departed this life on August 24, 1983 in the Highland Personal Care Home in Abilene having attained the age of 89 years, four months and 28 days. He attended the county schools and grew to manhood in the community of his birth. On June 22, 1918 he was united in marriage with Sarah E. Bovey in Holland, Kan. and to this union two daughters were born. He was engaged in farming most of his adult life in Dickinson County and retired in 1974 at which time they moved into Abilene from the Talmage community to make their home. His wife preceded him in death on March 11, 1975. Martin was a member of the Armed Forces during World War I, serving with the Army in the 28th Machine Gun Battalion. He was a member of the World War I Barracks of Abilene. He was a kind and friendly man, a loving father, brother and grandfather who loved his family very much and was especially fond of his grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his passing his two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Evelyn) Crawford, Abilene and Mrs. Victor (Mary) Reich, Hope, Kan.; one brother, Arthur Dunlap, Upper Sandusky, Ohio; seven grandsons, two granddaughters, eight great-grandsons, three great-granddaughters, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
