Baptized at St. Mary Magdalen, Taunton, Somersetshire, 6 Apr 1607, son of Henry & Joane (Boridge) Coggan. Came from Taunton, Somersetshire, to Massachusetts Bay in 1634. First settled in Dorchester MA; moved to Scituate MA in 1639, & Barnstable MA in 1639. Returned to England in 1649 & died there "about the 16th of June" 1649.
Married in Bridport, Dorsetshire, 14 Mar 1636/7, Abigail Bishop, daughter of Thomas & Avis (Abbott) Bishop. She married (2) in Barnstable, 10 Jun 1650, John Phinney & died 6 May 1653.
Thre of the sisters of Henry Coggan (or their children) came to New England. Judith married in 1624 GILES RICKARD {1640, Plymouth}. Mary married James Glass who died in England in 1639; at least 4 of their children, & perhaps the mother, came to New England. Frances married JOHN WHITCOMB {1636, Dorchester}.
On 2 Mar 1646/7, Plymouth Court considered a "petition of Francis Crooker, who desired in marriage mary Gaunt, kinswoman to Mr. Coggin of Ba[rn]stable."
