Samuel Bartlett, Veteran of War, Dies At Retsil -
Aged Man Who Served in National Guard From 1917 to 1919 Summonded Today --
Samuel Bartlett, 83-year-old veteran, died this morning at Washington Veterans Home, Retsil, where he had resided since 1934. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, January 24, 1856, and had lived in this state since 1926.
He served a short enlistment in 1874 and then saw service in the National Guard from 1917 to 1919.
Among surviving relatives are three sons, A. B. Bartlett of Renton, B. E. Bartlett of Las Vegas, Nevada, and James Bartlett of Denver; one daughter, Mrs. Effie Lawless of Denver, and a granddaughter, Mrs. John O. Bryon of Seattle.
The day for funeral services has not been set as yet but the American Legion Post of Port Orchard, of which he was a member, will officiate. The body is at Pendleton Funeral Parlors. [Bremerton Daily News Searchlight, Thurs., Apr. 25, 1940, p. 2].
