Delories Elizabeth Franklin-Goodgame

Delories passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her family and friends after her courageous battle with cancer. A native of Plaquemine and a resident of Prairieville, she was born Sept. 30, 1932. Jesus took her by His hand and led her home on Monday, May 18, 2009, at 10:25 p.m. Preceded in death by her son, Buster Goodgame; two husbands, Earl Goodgame and George Wilson; great-grandson, Terrance; parents, A.B. and Lucille Ballard Franklin; grandmother, Sophie Drake Ballard; grandparents, Dr. W.D. and Mrs. Franklin; niece, Amy Franklin Dion; nephew, Ju Ju Franklin; sister-in-law, Ramona Gonzales Franklin; son-in-law, Douglas Ray Scruggs; and three children she took in and reared, Cleo, David and Ronnie. She is survived by a daughter, Winnie Goodgame Scruggs; three grandsons, Randy and wife Robin Messer, Rusty and wife Lynn Messer, and Christopher Landry; granddaughter, Melissa Loes, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three great-grandsons, Ryan Benet Messer, Wesly and Brandon Golson; great-granddaughter, Megan Romaire and great-great grandson Jace Duplessis. She is also survived by three brothers, William "Bubba" and wife Alise Franklin, Jack "Boots" and wife Shirley Franklin, and Roman Gene "Buck" and wife Bobbie Franklin; two sisters, Sarah May and husband Douglas Gonzales, and Lucille Ann and husband Clyde Pitre; many nieces and nephews; her children's Sunday school class of Grace Fellowship Church as well as many good friends and good neighbors. Special thanks to friends Pat and Mindy who visited and cared for her daily and to her siblings and their spouses for the awesome love exhibited through the years. Delories was in the trucking industry for 42 years after attending Memphis State for traffic and transportation while rearing her children and taking care of her invalid husband. She was a member of the Baptist church and worked with children all her life. Delories always said, "We have only one day to live and that is today, yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come. God gave us today, live it for Him." Her favorite verses were Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto your own understanding." Services at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine, on Friday, May 22, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Services resume at the funeral home on Saturday, May 23, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Religious service at First Baptist Church, Plaquemine, on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Grace Memorial Park.
