Fr. Barksdale was a graduate of St. Charles Seminary, Baltimore and was ordained in 1941. He was baptized as an infant at St. James Roman Catholic Church and was Assistant Pastor there at the time of his death. His family was one of the first five Catholic families in Orlando, Florida. The nickname, "Buster" was a private family nickname used only by his parents and siblings. His nieces and nephews called him Uncle Roy except in public, where we always referred to him as Father Roy out of respect for his devotion to the Church. He died far too young, and his absence from.our lives was like the front tooth missing from a beautiful smile. How fortunate we were to have loved him and to have that loved in equal measure.
