Billy Virgil Cryer
MAY 12 1932 - JUL 02 2022

On July 3, 2022, at the age of 90, Billy Virgil Cryer lost his long battle with cancer at his home in The Villages, Florida. Billy's son, (Jesse) and his daughter, (Margaret) were by his side when he passed to be with his Lord. Billy is survived by his daughter Margaret French, son Jesse Cryer and his wife Sherry Cryer, all of The Villages, and daughter Susan Jean Clark and her husband Jerry Clark of Spanish Fork, Utah. He is also survived by his stepchildren Joye Bailey and her husband Clint, Kirk Mize and wife Nancy, Karen Cress and husband Larry, and Rebecca Ellsworth and husband Steve. He is survived as well by six grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 30 + great and step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by first wife Norma Jean Harman Cryer, second wife Freda Nell Denman Cryer, stepson Mark Mize, son-in-law Pete French, sisters Bobbye Nell Cryer Falkner and Linda Joy Cryer, and great granddaughter Tatiana Abel.

Billy was born May 13, 1932 in Lavon Texas to Virgil Dee and Tressa Margaret Boyd Cryer. He grew up in the Lavon area where he met his lifelong friend "L.P." Lester Perez Falkner. He attended high school in Eunice New Mexico where he married Norma Jean Harman in 1950. Billy worked in the Carbon Black Plant outside Eunice, New Mexico while living there.

In 1961 Billy and his family moved from Eunice, New Mexico to Sterling, Alaska. Billy eventually went to work at Swanson River Oil Field where he subsequently worked for 30 years for Northern Oil Operations, Chevron, ARCO, and BP; primarily as a Compressor Plant Operator.

Living in Alaska provided many challenges and rewards for Billy such as the 1964 Earthquake, hunting moose, fishing for salmon, playing country music, working on cars, building houses, and raising a family. Billy's first wife died of leukemia in 1990 and Billy retired in 1992.

Billy remarried to Freda Nell Denman in 1993, and moved back to Lavon, Texas shortly thereafter. He lived in Lavon, Winnsboro, and in 1999 bought a "gentleman's farm" in Scroggins, Texas where he and Freda Nell lived until her passing in 2015.

Billy and Freda were active in the Harmony Assembly of God church in Pickton, Texas, and Billy enjoyed playing music for "Friday Church" at the nursing home in Winnsboro.

In 2017 Billy and daughter Margaret Cryer French moved to The Villages, Florida to live near his son, Jesse Cryer.
