CDR USN WW2

Commander Arthur R. Anderson, USN, Retired, went home to be with his lord on May 16,1988.

He is beloved as husband, father, best friend, servant of the Lord, and career naval officer. His desire to serve was demonstrated in every aspect of his life.

A first generation American, he was born April 20, 1911, to Swedish parents who made their new lives in Portland, Oregon.

He graduated from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, with a bachelor of arts with high honors on June 13, 1938. He received a bachelor of divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary on May 16, 1941. He was ordained as a Baptist minister at the Second Baptist Church of Chicago, Illinois, on November 8, 1942. He then received a master of divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, June ll, 1972.

He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy on May 6, 1943 and he proudly served for 23 years as a Navy Chaplain. He received the Navy Unit Commendation, Asian Pacific, American Theater
and was a four time recipient of the Philippine Liberation.
He also received the WW II European occupation Citation.
Commander Anderson served aboard the USS Ommaney Bay and the USS Roanoke.

In 1955 he married Doris Margaret Hare, a native "Texan" serving as a Lieutenant in the Navy Nursing Corps, and continued to serve both country and Lord until his retirement.

He retired from the US Navy on July 1, 1966 in Austin, Texas, where he built a home for his family. He then began a career as a Chaplin of the Travis County Jail and of Gardner house. He served on the school board of the Dripping Springs ISD from 1972-1978 and the Lake Travis ISD from 1981-1984.
He received a Distinguished Service Award by the Austin Community Services Association designated him as Outstanding Professional Worker in 1978.

Above all else, Arthur Anderson was a biblical scholar and teacher who lovingly shared his extensive knowledge with the Hyde Park Baptist Seniors Sunday school class.

He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Doris Anderson; and daughter Judith Anderson, both of Austin and numerous relatives in Sweden.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 AM, Thursday at Weed-Corley Funeral Home, with Reverend Ralph Smith of Hyde Park Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow the services at Austin Memorial Park.

REST IN SWEET ETERNAL PEACE CMD ANDERSON.

My husband Donald was on the U.S.S. Ommaney Bay during WW II and knew Chaplain Anderson really well. He often talked of him and said what a wonderful person he was.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO JAN PELOSI FOR THE TRANSFER
