WILLIE KATHRYN RONEY
HEADLAND. . .Willie Kathryn Whitten Roney, a resident of Headland, died late Friday night, May 22, 2009, in the Azalea Court Assisted Living in Headland. She was 85.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P. M. Sunday, May 24, 2009, in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Headland with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland Baptist Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P. M. Sunday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Headland, 301 East Church Street, Headland, AL. 36345 or to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL. 36301.

Mrs. Roney was a lifelong resident of Headland, daughter of the late George David Whitten and Guinn Nowell Whitten. She was a graduate of the Henry County High School in Headland and also received a B. S. Degree in Home Economics from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). Mrs. Roney was retired from Headland High School as the Home Economics teacher after thirty years employment. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland and the Esther Sunday School Class. Mrs. Roney was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Henry County Retired Teacher's Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Roney, Jr., a sister, Lizzie Ella Whitten Crawford, a brother, David Paul Whitten and a nephew, James Francis (Jimmy) Crawford, Jr.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Dr. Brenda Roney Wade and husband, Steve Wade, Dothan; a grandson, Adam Kessler Barnes and wife, Anna Senn Barnes, Headland; two great-grandchildren, Whitten Mason Barnes and Kessler Grasenn Barnes; a nephew's wife, Jo Crawford, Abbeville; five nieces, Fran Crawford Heisner, Lil Crawford Serviss, Gwendolyn Whitten Giles, Daline Whitten Starkey, Rosa Lynn Whitten Padgett, a nephew, David Harris Whitten, several great-nieces and great-nephews, a former son-in-law, William Kessler (Bill) Barnes.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Eric Heisner, Billy Deal, Mike Wehner, Bob F. Williams, Art de la Croix, John W. Solomon and Tim McCraney. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Esther Sunday School Class.
