Obituary of Mr. Cox from the Daily Herald dated April 27, 1904:
"After a long illness Madison Cox, a native of South Carolina and resident of Biloxi for the last twenty-one years, died at the residence of his brother, C. Cox, last night at 10:55 o'clock, aged 52 years. Mr. Cox was a member of the Biloxi Benevolent Association and the Oystermen's Protective Association. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence of his brother, 1427 Beach street".Madison was born to Marion Madison Cox and Anna Sally Frazer. Marion Cox was born in 1809 in Edgefield Co., SC, the son of Clement Cox. Clement was born about 1781 in KY or VA to Henry Cox and Ann Madison - the source of the family name of Madison.
Madison Jr was only 2 when his father died. His mother remarried in SC and moved to Mobile, AL when his was 8 with his 2 brothers and a half-sister. In 1880 Madison married Corine. Madison was an oyster fisherman. He was arrested in Lake Borgne in Jan, 1905. This started a lawsuit that went to the Supreme Court and decided the boundary between LA and MS fishing waters.
